HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay Pioneers were defeated by the San Francisco State Gators, 3-1 on a historic day at Pioneer Stadium Sunday afternoon, October 14.

The East Bay women's soccer program honored the 1988 national championship Pioneer soccer team by unveiling their championship banner pregame and then with a small ceremony during halftime.

On the field of play the 2018 Pioneer women's soccer team put forth a valiant effort against the second place Gators.

With the loss, CSUEB moves to 6-6-2 on the season with a 1-5-2 record in conference play.

The teams nearly took a scoreless tie into the intermission, but in the 41st minute SF State got a goal from Summer Langsam to take a, 1-0 lead into halftime.

Just minutes into the second half senior
Savannah Schultz (Folsom, Calif.) knotted the game at 1-1 with a blast from 30 yards out to the right side of the goal. It was Shultz's first goal of the 2018 season as she was assisted by junior
Chace Miguel (Hollister, Calif.).

The Gators added two more goals in the 65th and 74th minutes to claim the 3-1 conference rivalry win.

Despite falling 3-1 the Pioneers outshot SF State, 12-8, but it was SFSU who held the shot on goal advantage over CSUEB, 6-4.

Savannah Schultz paced the Pioneers with four shots with two shots on goal. Sophomore
Lauren McDougal (Elk Grove, Calif.) compiled three shots with two shots on goal.
Liz Hernandez (Whittier, Calif.) added two shots while
Allison Smith (Elk Grove, Calif.),
Chace Miguel and
Kayla Morales (San Jose, Calif.) all chipped in one shot each.

Freshman
Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) notched all 90 minutes in goal recording three saves on the afternoon.

The Pioneers will return to action at home next week with their "Kick For A Cure" pick game against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, October 19 and their Senior Day match against Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, October 21.
