Pioneer Men's Soccer Drops, 1-0 Contest to Gators in Bay Bridge Battle

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest to the visiting San Francisco State Gators on Sunday afternoon, October 14 at Pioneer Stadium.
 
East Bay lost by a count of 1-0 as they move to 3-9-1 on the season with a 1-6-1 mark in conference action.
 
The action was back and forth through the first 30 minutes of as both teams battled for momentum of the game. The Gators would break the 0-0 tie with a game-winning goal in the 31st minute of action by Aydan Bowers.
 
Cal State East Bay held the shot overall output over SF State, 14-8 with both the Pioneers and Gators attempting five shots on goal.
 
Senior Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Calif.) led the Pioneers with three shots on the afternoon with two shots on goal. Jared Johnson (Los Altos, Calif.) along with the freshman duo of Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) and Marco Campos (Hayward, Calif.) all put up two shot attempts. Johnson's and Francisco's added one shot on goal.
 
Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland), Ben Reiter (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.), Joe Takada (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jacob Castro (San Jose, Calif.) all chipped in one shot apiece with Ayala's shot coming on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) saw 45 minutes of action in goal and recorded one save. Freshman Juan Diego Escalante (Castro Valley, Calif.) logged 45 minutes in the box and tallied a season best three saves.
 
The Pioneers will have their final home stand of the season as they welcome Cal State San Bernardino for their "Kick For A Cure" pink game on Friday, October 19 and Cal Poly Pomona o Sunday, October 21 for Senior Day.
