SEASIDE, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team kicked off the Battle of the Bays with a, 5-0 defeat at the hands of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday afternoon, October 10 at the Otters Sports Complex.

With the loss, East Bay moves to 3-8-1 on the season with a 1-5-1 mark in conference play. It was CSUEB's sixth time being held scoreless in a contest this season.

The Pioneers were outshot 23-0 for the contest with the home team Otters attempting 13 shots on goal.

Monterey Bay took a 2-0 lead into the intermission after goals by Walmer Martinez and Steve Lopez in the third and 27th minutes of the game.

The Otters would add three more goals by Adrian Rebollar, Matthew Lee and Steve Lopez in the 49th, 63rd and 69th minutes of the match to claim a 5-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronal logged all 90 minutes in box and logged seven saves, one shy of his career high set earlier this season against Cal State San Marcos.

East Bay will return home for the "Bay Bridge Battle" against San Francisco State on Sunday morning, October 14 at Pioneer Stadium.
