SEASIDE, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer program opened their "Battle of the Bays" contest with an 1-0 loss to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday afternoon, October 10 at the Otters Sports Complex.
With the loss East Bay falls to 6-5-2 on the season with a 1-4-2 record in conference action. It was just the second match all season in which CSUEB has been shutout.
The teams played to a scoreless first half and took a 0-0 tie into the intermission.
In the second half of action, with less than 10 minutes to go in the game, the Otters got a game-winning goal from Sahana Bojorquez to claim the, 1-0 victory.
The Pioneers held the shot advantage over the home team Otters, 11-8 with eight shots on goal from East Bay and four shots on goal by Monterey Bay.

Kayla Morales (San Jose, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with three shots with all three shots coming on goal. Junior
Jamie McPherson (San Leandro, Calif.) chipped in two shots for East Bay.
Aulani Fernandez (Brentwood, Calif.),
Abby Buitrago (San Jose, Calif.),
Lauren McDougal (Elk Grove, Calif.),
Savannah Schultz (Folsom, Calif.),
Liz Hernandez (Whittier, Calif.) and
Andrea Aborqui (Bakersfield, Calif.) all finished with one shot with Fernandez, Buitrago, McDougal, Schultz and Aborqui shots coming on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) clocked all 90 minutes in the box and recorded three saves.
East Bay will return home for their "Bay Bridge Battle" against conference rival San Francisco State on Sunday afternoon, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium.
