HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team will hit the road to begin the month of February for California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games against Humboldt State on Thursday evening, February 1 and Chico State on Saturday night, February 3. Both games will tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
Â
The Pioneers are sitting fourth in the CCAA standings with a 9-7 mark in conference play and a 13-9 record overall.
Â
LAST ACTION
Morgan Greene continued her phenomenal sophomore campaign on Friday, scoring a career-high 33 points to lead the Cal State East Bay women's basketball team to a 76-67 overtime victory over Cal Poly Pomona at Pioneer Gym.
Â
The victory improves East Bay's home record to 7-1 this season. It also brings CSUEB a bit closer to Pomona (13-6, 10-4 CCAA) in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. The two-time defending champion Pioneers are now just 1.5 games behind the second-place Broncos and a half-game behind third-place Humboldt State heading into Saturday's game against Cal State San Bernardino.
Â
For Greene, it was the first time in her career surpassing the 30-point plateau. It's also the highest single-game scoring total by any CCAA player in 2017-18. Greene leads the conference in field goal percentage and had a remarkably efficient game, going 12-for-14 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the foul line. The sophomore also pulled in 16 rebounds, which marks her sixth time this season recording at least 16 boards.
Â
Woolridge finished with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting, reaching double figures for the 14th time in her last 16 games. The Oakland native has climbed all the way up to No. 9 in the CCAA in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game.
Â
The Pioneers didn't have a stellar performance from long distance, finishing 5-for-18 on three-pointers as a team. Most of that damage was done by senior
Janae Chamois, who went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and tallied 13 points.
Â
Fellow senior
Bri Guillory gave East Bay valuable offense off the bench, adding eight points on 3-for-4 shooting in 17 minutes.
Â
The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team was defeated at home for just the second time this season on Saturday, falling 67-57 to Cal State San Bernardino to split their weekend home stand at Pioneer Gym.
Â
The Pioneers struggled offensively throughout the evening, shooting just 32.7 percent from the field as they drop to 13-9 for the season with a 9-7 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Â
On the heels of one of their biggest victories of the season over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, the Pioneers couldn't find their rhythm for much of the game against the Coyotes after grabbing an early lead.
Â
Morgan Greene got two quick fouls early in the quarter and sat out most of the rest of the period. CSUEB's offense felt the effects of her absence, making just two field goals in the second and heading into halftime down 30-25.
Â
In a bit of a statistical quirk, the Pioneers had a five-way tie for their leading scorer in this contest as Greene,
Elayshia Woolridge,
Janae Chamois,
Kayla Blair, and
Bri Guillory all posted exactly 10 points.
Â
Greene added 17 rebounds to secure her 16th double-double of the season. That figure, as well as her rebounding average of 13.0 per game, rank second in the entire nation. Chamois dished out a team-high five assists, while Woolridge notched four.
Â
The Pioneers had a solid night shooting from long distance, finishing 7-for-15 from three-point range as a team. But it wasn't enough to overcome 22 turnovers that led to 20 points for Cal State San Bernardino.
