POMONA, Calif. – Two-time California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) player of the week Sergi Monso scored a first-half hat trick as the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos defeated the the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team 5-0 on Friday evening, September 22 at Kellogg Field.
With the loss, CSUEB falls to 2-5-1 on the year and 0-3 in conference play while CPP moves to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 on CCAA action.
Offense came easy for as Monso came out firing scoring his first goal in the opening two minutes of play, taking the keeper right before finishing in the left corner of the goal.
The Broncos held a hefty margin on the shot chart with a 14-5 advantage over the Pioneers. East Bay was only afforded one shot at the frame opportunity compared to 10 from Cal Poly Pomona.
After goal by Monso in the 14th and 35th minutes to take a 3-0 lead at the intermission. Luis Najrea Jr., and Jimmie Villalobos put in the final two goals of the second half to help CPP claim the 5-0 victory.

Alec Hester led the Pioneer charge with two shot attempts and East Bay's lone shot on goal attempt.

Carlos Moreno logged a game-high five saves for the CSUEB. His 13 shots faced were the second most for him this season.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they complete their CCAA road trek with a Sunday afternoon clash against Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday, September 24 with a 2:00 p.m. start.
