SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's basketball dropped a tough road match up 74-82 to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday night, February 3 in Coussoulis Arena.
The Pioneers (12-10, 5-9 CCAA) battled the Coyotes (10-8, 6-7) in a tight contest that featured four ties and 12 lead changes between the squads, as neither team lead by more than nine.
After being down 29-30 at the intermission, East Bay was outscored 52-45 in the second half as San Bernardino shot 72.0 percent from the floor in the second half.
Four Pioneers scored n double figures led by a team high 16 points from senior forward
Micah Dunhour. He added eight rebounds and a assist as he was limited to 13 minutes because of foul trouble.
Dunhour went 10-for-13 from the foul line as he has now scored in double figures in 19 of the Pioneers 22 games.
The East Bay bench outscored the East Bay starters 47-27 and the Coyote bench 47-16.
Senior
Pierre Carter tallied 12 points on 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc off the bench. Carter finished with two rebounds and an assist in 30 minutes of action. Carter went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Junior center
Kyle Frakes compiled 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes on the floor. Frakes shot 5-for-6 from the field in a reserve role for East Bay.
Freshman wing
Druce Asah chipped in 10 points on 4-of-6 from the field, including 2-for-4 from three-point range. Asah added a rebound in 14 minutes off the Pioneer bench.
Junior forward
Jelani Mitchell put in eight points, one rebound, an assist and one steal in 11 minutes on play.
Senior guard
Jalen Richard grabbed a game high 10 rebounds to go along with his seven points, two assists, one block and one steal on his team high 37 minutes. This stopped of streak of eight straight game with double digit scoring for Richard.
Sophomore point guard
Juwan Anderson dished out a game best eight assists with two points, five rebounds and a career best two blocks in 31 minutes.
The Pioneers outrebounded the Coyotes 37-28 but CSUSB outscored East Bay 52-34 in paint points. San Bernardino scored 15 points off 13 East Bay turnovers.
CSUEB shot 47.2 percent from the field for the game but only 30.0 percent for from long distance. The Coyotes finished the game with a 53.6 percent accuracy from the floor after an explosive second half.
Khleem Perkins led the Coyotes with a game high 30 points and six rebounds. Dorian Butler added 13 points and five rebounds for San Bernardino.
The Pioneers completes their weekend road trip Saturday, February 4 with matchup against UC San Diego (16-5, 11-3 CCAA) in Rimac Arena.
