HAYWARD, Calif. -- For the second straight season, the Cal State East Bay women's basketball team has been red hot down the stretch in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play, and for the second straight year, the Pioneers enter the final weekend near the top of the conference standings.

UC San Diego's win last night clinched the regular season title for the Tritons, but the Pioneers have chance to hang onto the No. 2 seed heading into next week's CCAA Tournament with victories in their last two contests.

Tonight, the Pioneers are celebrating "Pink Night" in support of breast cancer awareness and research as they take on Chico State in a potential first-round playoff matchup. On Saturday, CSUEB will celebrate "Senior Night" prior to the final game of the regular season, a crucial showdown against third-place Stanislaus State. There will be a brief pregame ceremony to honor the careers of seniors Remy Puou, Shomari Harris, and Shontalene Trudeau.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers had just one game last weekend, which required the team's fifth trip of the season to Southern California. They took care of business with an 81-68 win at Cal State San Marcos, which will be the host site of the CCAA Tournament semifinal and final rounds. Four Pioneers scored in double figures in the victory, and they dominated the glass with a 57-34 rebounding advantage.

ENTERING THE RECORD BOOKS
Puou had a career night against the Cougars with 19 points on 8-for-16 shooting, to go along with 20 rebounds and five blocks. She's the first Cal State East Bay player to record 20 rebounds in a game since the University joined the CCAA in 2009-10, and on Tuesday she was named CCAA Player of the Week for the first time in her four-year career.

Puou enters her final set of home games ranked third in program history in career blocks (77), sixth in rebounds (520), ninth in field goal percentage (.467), and 10th in made field goals (284).

The Pioneers have two of the best post players in the conference in Puou and freshman Morgan Greene, who's tied for the CCAA lead averaging 9.4 rebounds per game. They also might have the league's Most Valuable Player in senior Shomari Harris, who currently leads the CCAA in scoring (16.6 ppg).

PLAYOFF BOUND
Cal State East Bay will compete in the CCAA Tournament next week for the sixth straight season, and for the second year in a row, they'll open with a first round home game. Their opponent is to be determined, but the Pioneers will host a playoff game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. ASI is sponsoring a pregame tailgate with free food at 5:30 p.m. outside Pioneer Gym.

BUBBLE WATCH
The Pioneers will hope to win the CCAA Tournament for the second straight year and clinch an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II West Regionals. But if they fall short of that goal, they're sitting very much on the bubble. With eight teams representing the West Region, CSUEB is currently slotted at No. 8 in this week's NCAA Regional Rankings. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-women/d2/regional-ranking A pair of wins this weekend would give the Pioneers a strong chance to retain that ranking and potentially earn an at-large berth.

CHECKING IN ON CHICO
The Wildcats got off to a hot start to the CCAA schedule, but they've have lost three straight and five of their last eight over the last few weeks after losing a couple their best players midseason. They have the second-ranked scoring defense in the conference and are out-scoring opponents by 4.5 points per game. Whitney Branham is one of the league's top scorers averaging 14.9 ppg.

SCOUTING STANISLAUS
The Warriors are 13-5 in CCAA games despite ranking near the bottom of the conference in field goal percentage and scoring margin. They do lead the league in turnovers forced by a significant margin. Stanislaus has two players averaging in double figures, and they have an MVP candidate of their own in Cassidy Sanders-Curry (14.2 ppg, 6.9 rpg).
