HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Pioneer women's basketball team will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on the road with a trek to Southern California to face off against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.
 
East Bay will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills at 5:30 p.m. in the Torodome on Friday, November 17. Then CSUEB will face off against Cal State L.A. at 5:30 p.m. in the Eagles Nest on Saturday, November 18.
 
The Pioneers are off to a 2-1 start to the season as they head into conference play despite having yet to play a game in Hayward.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers opened up the 2017-18 regular season by sweeping the West Region Tip-Off Classic before suffering their first loss of the season to Point Loma.
 
The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team picked up a 71-48 victory in their season opener over Holy Names on Friday afternoon.
 
Newcomer Savannah McGill (Lacey, Wash.) scored a game high 21 points in her East Bay debut. McGill went 9-for-10 shooting from the field. She also grabbed eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in 26 minutes of action.
 
After trailing by one point at the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers outscored the Hawks 53-38 throughout the rest of the contest. East Bay dominated on the boards 46-23, assists 21-9 and points in the paint 42-28.
 
CSUEB shot 45.5% from the floor for the game and garnered 22 points from the bench. East Bay also collected 20 second chance points to just four from Holy Names.
 
Sophomore forward Morgan Greene (Phoenix, Ariz.) compiled a double-double posting 14 points and gathered a game high 15 rebounds. Greene also dished out a career best four assists with a block and steal in 28 minutes on the court.
 
Junior Elayshia Woolridge (Oakland, Calif.) led the Pioneers with five helpers while scoring four points and amassing six rebounds off the bench.
 
Kayla Blair (Fairfield, Calif.) and Janae Chamois (Eastvale, Calif.) helped spark the East Bay charge off the bench. Blair notched nine points and four rebounds on 4-for-6 shooting in her first game as a Pioneer. Chamois chipped in eight points, with two three-pointers in 20 minutes of action.
 
The Pioneer defense held Holy Names to 38.5% shooting from the game including 35.7% from the field after the intermission. East Bay also forced the Hawks to 15.4% shooting from long range.
 
The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team completed the sweep of the West Region Tip-Off Classic with 56-52 win over Academy of Art Saturday afternoon.
 
Savannah McGill (Lacey, Wash.) and Morgan Greene (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the Pioneers with outstanding performances in the victory. McGill came close to breaking the East Bay record for rebounds in a game as she hauled in a career-best 25 boards. She added 10 points, two assists, two steals and a block in 35 minutes of action. Greene racked up her second consecutive double-double with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds on 5-for-9 shooting. She chipped in an assist, a block and a steal in 36 minutes.
 
Both McGill and Greene earned All-Tournament honors for their performances in Friday and Saturday's contests.
 
East Bay avenged last season's loss to ARTU by outscoring them in three quarters and holding the Urban Knights to just 31.6% shooting for the game. The Pioneers also dominated the battle of the boards 46-31 and bench scoring 23-12. ARTU did have more points in the paint 26-24 and points off turnovers 17-7.
 
Newcomer Kayla Blair (Fairfield, Calif.) compiled her Pioneer career-high with 11 points. She added two assists, a rebound and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench. Senior guard Bri Guillory paced East Bay with four assists to go along with two points, a rebound and an assist.
 
Elayshia Woolridge (Oakland, Calif.) tallied six points and two rebounds on 3-for-4 shooting from the field. Janae Chamois (Eastvale, Calif.), Kincso Kelemen (Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania), Kayley Hsiung (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Zaria Branch (San Diego, Calif.) all turned in three points apiece.
 
The Pioneer women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the 2017-18 season with a 78-59 road loss to Point Loma on Tuesday evening.
 
East Bay, whom have yet to play a home game, move to 2-1 on the season after defeating Holy Names and Academy of Art during the West Region Tip-Off Classic in San Francisco over the weekend.
 
The Pioneers jumped out to a 17-13 lead after the first quarter of play and a 31-30 advantage at halftime despite their 35.5 shooting percentage for the the first half. The East Bay lead was helped by seven first half points in eight minutes from junior guard Elayshia Woolrdige.
 
Elayshia Woolridge (Oakland, Calif.) was one of three Pioneers to led East Bay in scoring with 12 points on the evening. Woolridge notched a season-high 12 points while leading the Pioneers with four assists. She added two rebounds and three steals in 21 minutes off the bench.
 
Janae Chamois (Eastvale, Calif.) Chamois finished with season-best 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from three-point land. Chamois grabbed two rebounds and dished out one assist in 24 minutes of action.
 
Sophomore guard Kayley Hsiung (Bakersfield, Calif.) also compiled a season high 12 points as she too connected on four shots from beyond the arc. She chipped in two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 23 minutes off the pine.
 
The Pioneers outscored the Sea Lions 32-2 in bench points, but were out-marked, 36-10 in paint points and 13-9 in points off turnovers. The turning point in the game for the Pioneers came in the second half as they were outscored 48-28 by Point Loma, including 27-11 in the fourth quarter.
 
East Bay shot just 23.1% from the field and 35% from three-point range in the second half, while Point Loma knocked down 46.4% of their shots and 50% of their three-pointers after the intermission.
 
Sophomore forward Morgan Greene (Phoenix, Ariz.) corralled a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with seven points, two assists and two steals on a team best 34 minutes on the floor.
 
Senior guard Bri Guillory and junior guard Zaria Branch each tallied five points for East Bay. Guillory added three assists and a rebound. Branch added two rebounds in 12 minutes.
 
PIONEER POINTS
Cal State East Bay junior newcomer Savannah McGill (Lacey, Wash.) began her Pioneer career with an impressive weekend to earn California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week honors for Nov. 6-12, the conference office announced Tuesday.
 
McGill, a junior South Puget Sound College and the all-time leading rebounder in the Northwest Athletic Conference, helped the two-time defending CCAA champion Pioneers to a pair of victories, averaging 15.5 points and 16.5 rebounds on 70 percent shooting in wins over Bay Area foes Holy Names and Academy of Art at Kezar Pavilion.
 
She was the squad's leading scorer in the season opener against the Hawks with 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. The following afternoon, McGill notched her first double-double in an East Bay uniform with 10 points and 25 rebounds. Her impressive rebounding mark is the highest total by a Pioneer in a single game in the CCAA era, and it fell just two shy of matching a school record that has been on the books for 32 years. She ranked as the second-leading rebounder in the nation for the opening week of the season.
 
She is averaging 11.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.
 
Sophomore forward Morgan Greene is pacing the Pioneers in both points and rebounds with 12.0 points per outing and grabbing 13.7 rebounds per contest. Greene has notched a double-double in all but one game so far this season. She is also shooting 50.0% from the floor on 32.7 minutes per game.
 
Junior point guard Elayshia Woolridge is leading the Pioneers with 3.0 assists per game to go with 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest. She is averaging 18.0 minutes per game off the bench.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros are 0-2 on the season with losses to Point Loma and Azuza Pacific. Dominguez Hills finished the 2016-17 season with a 7-20 overall mark and a 4-16 record in conference action. Heaven Holmes is leading CSUDH with 17.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing. Nautica Morrow is chipping in 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATE LA
The Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles are off to a 0-3 start to the year with losses to Central Washington, Alaska Anchorage and Northwest Nazarene. The Golden Eagles completed the 2016-17 season with a 15-14 overall record and a 12-8 mark in CCAA play. Mackenzie Barnes leads CSULA with 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Christine Delapina is adding 12.0 points and 3.7 assists per contest.
