HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team fell in their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) home match by a score of 2-1 to the visiting Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles Sunday afternoon, October 8 at Pioneer Stadium.
It is the seventh consecutive loss for the Pioneers as they move to 3-10 on the season and 1-7 in CCAA action. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-2-2 on the year and 4-1-1 in conference play.
Cal State L.A. scored a pair of first half goals to take a 2-0 lead before the intermission. Xochitl Estrada put the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard first after cleaning up the rebound off an East Bay save from
Cheyanne Foster in the 33rd minute. Then in the 34th minute Paulina Chaidez dribbled a pass from Adyson Willett and fired a shot just left of the keeper.
Cal State East Bay had an 18-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 edge on shots on goal. After grabbing the 2-0 lead by halftime, the CSULA were out-shot, 9-3, in the second half. The Pioneers also had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior
Janelle Herrera (Fremont, Calif.,) scored her first goal of the 2017 season on a penalty kick that sailed just past the right side of the CSULA goal keeper into the corner of the net.
Savannah Schultz paced the Pioneers with a game-high seven shot attempts.
Nae'lani O'Neal and
Miranda Gonzalez added two shots each for CSUEB.

Cheyanne Foster came up with three saves for the Pioneers in 90 minutes of action.
Cal State East Bay will hit the road for a non-conference match against against UC Santa Cruz on Friday afternoon, October 13. Kickoff will be a 3:00 p.m. at the UC Santa Cruz Soccer Complex.
