Pioneers Come Up Short Against Toros 1-0

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Pioneer women's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 defeat to Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday evening, October 6 in Pioneer Stadium.

Cal State East Bay (3-8-0, 1-5-0 CCAA) had numerous chances to snap a scoreless streak of three games after attempting 15 shots and seven corner kicks against Dominguez Hills (2-7-0, 1-4-0 CCAA). The Toros only took two shots during the contest as Kelly Garzon connected on the game winning goal in the 64th minute of action to claim the 1-0 victory. It was her first goal of the season.

East Bay came out aggressively on offense, controlling the pace of the game and possession of the ball. The Pioneers took the second most shot attempts as a team this season on Friday. But it was the Toros who would be able to capitalize on their shout attempts as they pick up the CCAA road victory.

Nae'lani O'Neal and Lauren McDougal paced the Pioneers with a career-high four shots each. Bri Vallente, Savannah Schultz and Carsyn Hoogendoorn tallied two shots apiece for East Bay. Abby Buitrago also attempted one shot for CSUEB.

Cheyenne Foster was a strong presence in the goal for the Pioneers recording one save as the Toros attempted only two shots during the match.

East Bay will be back in action to finush their weekend home stand with a match against Cal State L.A. on Sunday afternoon, October 8. Kickoff will be at 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
