CHICO, Calif., -- The Cal State men's soccer team dropped the first leg of their California Collegiate Athletic Assocaiton (CCAA) weekend road trip against Chico State, 6-2 at University Soccer Stadium on Friday evening, October 20.

With the loss the Pioneers fall to 3-10-2 on the season and 0-8-1 in CCAA play.

The entire game was filled with action and goals galore. Andrew McCombs recorded a hat-trick for Chico State as they took a 4-1 lead into the halftime break. The lone Pioneer goal before intermission came from senior
TJ Butler.

Butler (Weymouth, Mass.,) volleyed his shot into the top right hand corner from the middle of the box in the 18th minute of action. For Butler it was his second goal of the year.

In the second half the Wildcats would add two more goals to just one from the Pioneers. East Bay senior
Evan Sanchez (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.,) put in his team-leading six goal of the year in the 77th minute. Sanchez scored on a blast from the top of the box through the top of the goal off a pass from freshman
Grant LaFleur (Brentwood, Calif.,).

Cal State East Bay won the shot advantage 14-11 but Chico State attempted one more shot at the goal than the Pioneers. The Wildcats took seven corner kicks to just three from CSUEB.

TJ Butler and
Evan Sanchez led the Pioneers with four shots,
Jonathan Cuevas compiled two attempts while
Tin Nguyen,
Grant LaFleur,
Alec Hester and
Jared Johnson each tallied one shot apiece.

Goalies
Carlos Moreno and
Omar Coronel split an even 45 minutes in the net for the Pioneers. Moreno led CSUEB with with two saves.

Cal State East Bay will finish their final CCAA road game of the season with a trek to Turlock to match up against Stanislaus State on Sunday afternoon, October 22 at Warrior Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
