HAYWARD, Calif. -- The red hot Cal State East Bay women's basketball team returns home this weekend to host conference foes Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona on Friday and Saturday at Pioneer Gymnasium.

Winners of three straight and six of their last seven, the Pioneers (11-7, 8-3 CCAA) are currently tied for second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. They will look to vault their home record, which stands at 3-4, up over the .500 mark.

East Bay will try to sweep the season series against the Jack , after defeating them 79-71 in Arcata on Dec. 30. The Pioneers will be looking for revenge against the Broncos the following night in a game between playoff contenders separated in the standings by just one game. CPP beat CSUEB back on Dec. 19, holding the Pioneers to a season-low 44 points.

WEEK IN REVIEW
Head coach Shanele Stires's squad picked up two huge wins last weekend during their third of five road trips to Southern California this season. Senior Shomari Harris had a monster performance, notching her two highest scoring nights of the season to pace the Pioneers. On Friday, it was a one-point game between CSUEB and Cal State L.A. heading into the fourth quarter. Harris scored 17 of the team's 19 points in the period, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. She finished with 29 points to go along with eight rebounds in a 61-57 win.

Friday marked a career scoring high for Harris, but it lasted less than a day. The next night in Carson, Harris scored 23 of her 30 points in the second half and dished out six assists as East Bay held on for a 78-68 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. The front court tandem of Morgan Greene and Remy Puou were also outstanding against the Toros. Both posted double-doubles, as Greene tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Puou scored 12 points and pulled in 13 boards.

Harris averaged 29.5 points and 7.0 rebounds over the weekend, shooting 45.4 percent from three-point range and burying 18 of 22 free throws. On Tuesday, she was named CCAA Player of the Week in what was likely one of the easiest decisions of the year for the conference office. She leads the CCAA in scoring and assists with nine regular season contests remaining.

PIONEER POINTS
East Bay continues to be solid on both sides of the ball, shooting 40.8 percent from the field as a team (fourth in the CCAA) and holding opponents to 39.3 percent (fifth-best in the league). The Pioneers also rank third in the conference in rebounds margin (+5.4).

CSUEB has posted impressive individual rebounding numbers throughout the season. Heading into this weekend, they boast two of the top five and four of the top 40 rebounders in the CCAA, all averaging more than four per game. Greene ranks second in the league at 9.2 rpg, followed by Puou with 7.2 rpg. Harris averaged 5.1 boards per game, and Shontalene Trudeau check in at 4.1 rpg.

SCOUTING THE JACKS
Humboldt State got off to a slow start this season and has been out-scored by 9.4 points per game, but they have turned it around since the calendar switched to 2017. The Jacks have won four of their last five, including a 73-55 victory over second-place Stanislaus State on Saturday. They're led by Tyra Turner (12.5 ppg, 5.0 rog, 4.4 apg), who shares the CCAA assist lead with Harris, and Catherine Rees (11.4 ppg, 40.6 3FG%), who leads the conference in three-point shooting.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Cal Poly Pomona is right behind the Pioneers with their 7-4 conference, most recentyl defeating Chico State 72-69 in overtime. The Broncos lead the CCAA in rebound margin (+8.4), and they rank second in scoring defense, allowing just 58.6 points per game. They're led by the front court duo of Chelsea Waddy-Blow (13.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 53% FG) and Priscilla Brooks (8.5 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 52% FG).
