LOS ANGELES – Jalen Richard racked up his first double double on this season in Cal State East Bay's 80-90 setback road loss to Cal State L.A. on Friday night in the Eagles Nest.
The loss snaps a two game win streak for the Pioneers and drops East Bay to 4-6 in CCAA play and 11-7 overall. Cal State L.A. was able to avenge their loss to their December 2 86-84 loss to East Bay to open CCAA play.
The Pioneers got off to a cold start in their first road game of the season shooting 35.4 percent from the field in the first half. CSUEB trailed Cal State L.A. 30-39 at halftime and wouldn't lead the game after the opening minutes of the first half.
East Bay ran into a hot shooting Golden Eagle squad as Cal State L.A. 56.0 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from behind the three-point line and 90.0 percent from the charity stripe.
Senior guard
Jalen Richard led the Pioneers with 20 points and a season high 10 rebounds. He finished two assists and a steal on a team high 37 minutes. Richard knocked down a season best nine free throws.
Senior forward
Micah Dunhour scored a game high 21 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor. He added five rebounds, three assists and two blocks on 35 minutes of game action. Dunhour went 2-for-4 from three-point land.
Sophomore point guard
Juwan Anderson tallied 11 points, a game high six assists, three rebounds and a steal on 29 minutes on the court. Anderson went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and sunk both of his foul shots.
Freshman wing
Druce Asah turned in nine points and three rebounds. Asah connected on 3-for-6 from three-point range in 20 minutes of action.
Junior
Kyle Frakes compiled eight points, two rebounds and a assist on 3-for-4 shooting from the field.
Junior
Drew Bender and senior
Pierre Carter paced the Pioneer bench scoring nine of East Bay's 11 total bench point.
Bender chipped in five points and a rebound in 17 minutes.
Carter added four points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block on 22 minutes of court action.
The Golden Eagles controlled the paint out scoring the Pioneers 34-24 in paint points and out rebounding them 40-28.
The Pioneers were able to scored 24 points off 18 forced turnovers and outscore the Golden Eagles 11-4 in second chance points.
Jordan Wilson led Cal State L.A. with 21 points and four assists. Travis Hammonds added 20 points and five rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they close their road trip against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, December 21. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. in the Torodome.
