East Bay found the goal again in the 74th minute when senior Juan Alfaro put in a shot off a free kick. It was the first goal of the season for the fourth-year defender
First year Head Coach Mike Bielski was happy with his team's win but also knows they'll need to play better heading into road conference play. "I know we are capable of more than what we gave tonight," said Bielski. "It wasn't pretty, but we did get the result we set out for. We are going to have to be better next weekend when we face San Bernardino and Cal Poly on the road."
Victor Calderon led the Pioneers with five shots. Michael Paiva, Evan Sanchez and Zach Leon all finished with two shots apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Carlos Moreno notched one save while picking up his first collegiate win and shutout.
The Pioneers will begin their three game road trip with a visit to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, October 7. The game will be played at Cal State San Bernardino's Premier Field.
