Senior Victor Calderon put in the golden goal for the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team it their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win of the season.
East Bay (4-5, 1-3 CCAA) defeated Humboldt State 2-1 (3-4-1, 1-3 CCAA) in extra minutes.
The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a goal by Johan Muliadi in the 23rd minute.
The Pioneers even the game at 1-1 in the 72nd minute with a follow up rebound, shot in the bottom right of the goal by Preston Hale. He was assisted by Ali Arianmanesh on the score. For Hale, it was his second goal of the season.
In overtime Victor Calderon put the decisive goal in the bottom left corner of the net in the 94th minute of game action. It was the second goal of the year for Calderon and his first game winner of the season.
CSUEB was outshot on goal 5-4 but the Pioneers tallied more total shots 13-8.
Mike Bielski, first year Head Coach of the East Bay men's soccer team was proud of how his team fought back in the victory. He was also very thankful for all the support the team recieved throught the weekend games.
"We showed a lot of character coming back from a goal down to win in OT today, Bielski said." "The guys left it all on the field against a tough opponent and I couldn't be prouder. We plan to build on this moving forward."
Senior goalkeeper Douglas McNeill paced East Bay with four saves in the game.
The Pioneers will return to action on when they host non-conferee opponent UC Santa Cruz on Friday September 30 at 5:00 p.m.
