LOS ANGELES -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team was blanked 2-0 by Cal State L.A. on the road Friday evening in the first game of California Collegiate Athletic Association competition.
The Pioneers fall to 1-3-2 overall and 0-1 in CCAA play after dropping the opener. They have now lost three straight since beginning the regular season with a win and two ties in their first three contests.
It was a defensive battle early on the field at Jesse Owens track. Although the Pioneers managed just one shot in the first 45 minutes, goalkeeper
Jasmine Corbett and the East Bay defense held CSULA to a scoreless first half as well.
The tie didn't last long into the second half, however. Corbett saved the Golden Eagles' first shot attempt of the period, but they quickly got the ball back in the offensive zone and then Marie-Lou Larose scored off a nice pass in the 50th minute to give the home team a lead.
In the 79th minute,
Andrea Hernandez had her shot attempt saved, and the Golden Eagles pushed the ball on the resulting counter. Anahie Duran received a long pass, eluded Corbett and scored the insurance goal for CSULA.
Allison Smith was the only other Pioneer to put a shot on goal in the game. Corbett finished with three saves.
The Pioneers will now attempt to earn a split on their SoCal road trip when they visit Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
