SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team was defeated on Monday by a final score of 3-2 by Seattle Pacific in the final game of a two-day tournament hosted by the Falcons at Interweb Stadium.
East Bay controlled possession early in the game and attempted six shots before the Falcons managed their first effort at goal, in the 12th minute. Brooke Lancaster's hard drive forced a dive from goalkeeper
Jasmine Corbett, who knocked the ball out of the end line
SPU capitalized on the resulting corner kick, which was served into the center of the box by Maddie Sjothun. Maddie Krauss reached the loose ball and poked it high into the goal from five yards out.
The Falcons' lead increased to 2-0 when Kasey Reeve found the back of the net in the 21st minute. She scored on a six-yard put-back after teammate Simone Herzberg's shot was deflected by Corbett in front of the goal.
The Pioneers finally got on the scoreboard and answered back with a goal in the 36th minute, as
Megan Ravenscroft took advantage of a bad clearance by Falcons goalkeeper Molly Stinson. Ravenscroft intercepted the low boot and took a few dribbles into the right side of the box before sending a 17-yard strike into the left side of the goal.
Just four minutes later, Ravenscroft netted the equalizer, finishing a through pass from
Rachel Robbert to the lower left corner from 12 yards out.
The teams went to halftime with the score tied 2-2, but the second 45-minute period would prove to be less eventful. Less than nine minutes into the second half, the Pioneers were called for a foul in the box. SPU's Kaitlyn Willis then converted to the penalty kick to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead.
That was ultimately the final score, as the Pioneers created several chances by couldn't manage to tie the game again. For the contest, they out-shot the Falcons 18-14 and put seven shots on goal.
After dropping both games on their trip to Seattle, Cal State East Bay returns home with a 1-2-2 non-conference record before heading south to take on Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend to open the California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule.
