SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon to open its conference challenge tournament at Seattle Pacific's Interweb Stadium. The Pioneers fell 1-0 to Concordia-Portland, dropping their 2016 record to 1-1-2.
Scoring chances were rare in this contest, particularly early. CSUEB's best opportunity came in the 40th minute, when
Savannah Schultz tried to flip a shot from inside the six-yard box, but CU's goalkeeper made the save to preserve the scoreless tie.
It took nearly the entire first half before Concordia managed to net the game's only goal. In the 44th minute, Alaina Edgerly dribbled into the left side of the box and fired a shot from 16 yards that found the right corner of the goal.
For the game, the Pioneers put five shots on goal, compared to four for Concordia, but they were unable to score the equalizer.
Jasmine Corbett made three saves in a scoreless second half as East Bay attempted to tie the game, but the junior ultimately took her first loss as a starter in the shutout.
Cal State East Bay has one more game in the Pacific Northwest before heading back to California to open the conference schedule. On Monday, Sept. 12, the Pioneers take on the hosts Seattle Pacific at 12 p.m.
