HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team was held scoreless for the first time this season in a 1-0 loss to visiting Regis University in the final game of the 2016 Pioneer Challenge.
East Bay (2-2-0) put just one shot on goal in a contest in which scoring chances were difficult to come by. Regis (3-0-0) remains undefeated with the victory.
After getting a couple chances in front of the goal in the first few minutes, but missing wide, the Rangers scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute. They drew a foul just inside the goalie box, setting up a penalty kick. Noah Chapleski then beat CSUEB keeper
Douglas McNeill into the left corner of the goal.
McNeill ended up making four saves and held the Rangers scoreless in the second half, but the Pioneers didn't attack effectively enough to find the back of the net for the equalizer.
CSUEB is back in action on Tuesday to host Dominican at 7 p.m. in the final non-confernece match before the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schedule opens.
