Pioneers Walk off on Cerminara's Homer to Split Friday Twinbill

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay softball team split its doubleheader on Friday against visiting Cal State San Marcos following a five-inning victory on junior Ali Cerminara's walk-off home run in game two.

The Pioneers (14-22, 9-15, CCAA) dropped the first game of the day despite a solid pitching performance by Sierra Clark. The Cougars (9-29, 6-22 CCAA) scored three runs in the fifth inning and four in the seventh, taking advantage of four CSUEB error, to steal the first game of the day, 7-4. 

Tatitana Beilstien gave up just one earned run in five innings to earn the victory in the second game. Gabby Gonzalez belted a grand slam to put East Bay up 4-1 in the second inning. The Pioneers hung three more runs on the board in the fourth, capped off by a two-run double by Clark. The home team closed out the eight-run victory the following inning. Clark shot a single up the middle to make it 9-3, then Cerminara blasted a two-run homer to center field, cueing the walk-off celebration. 

Cerminara, a 2015 Academic All-American, finished the day 6-for-8 with two home runs and six RBI to lead East Bay offensively.

The Pioneer and Cougars conclude their four-game series on Saturday with another doubleheader, set to begin at 11 a.m. on Pioneer Field.
