TURLOCK, Calif.-- Cal State East Bay travelled back to Turlock to makeup a doubleheader that was originally rained out Friday March 11. Unfortunately, it wasn't a welcome return visit for the Pioneers as they were swept by scores of 4-0 in game one and 4-2 in game two.
The losses put East Bay's CCAA record at 9-17 and 14-24 overall. Stanislaus State's conference mark improves to 15-17 and 23-22 overall.
GAME ONE: Stanislaus State 4, Cal State East Bay 0
Sierra Clark was able to hold the Warrior bats to two earned runs over six innings, but the Warriors would get two more on unearned runs and the Pioneers bats were held scoreless in a 4-0 defeat.
The Pioneers collected three hits in the opening game by
Gabby Gonzalez,
Ashley Allen, and
Courtney Leyba. Allen also stole her sixth base of the season in the fourth inning.
Clark yielded six hits in her six innings and struck out one.
GAME TWO: Stanislaus State 4, Cal State East Bay 2
Down 4-1 heading to their last hopes in the top of the seventh, the Pioneers were able to put together a rally and scored a run when
Allison Noble touched home after an error by the second basemen that made it 4-2 and left runners on first and second with nobody out. East Bay couldn't get any closer and suffered a two-run defeat.
East Bay got on board first in the game when Allen walked in the third inning and allowed Gonzalez to trot home for a 1-0 lead. Stanislaus State would take the lead with two in the fourth and add two more in the sixth.
Gonzalez went 1 for 2 in the second game to make it two hits for the day and 14 hits over her last eight games. Leyba added another hit in the second game to make 2 for 6 for the day.
Tatiana Beilstein got the start for East Bay and went four innings, giving up two earned runs on nine hits and took the loss. Clark pitched two innings in relief and gave no earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
Cal State East Bay plays again Saturday at Pioneer Field against #18 Chico State in a doubleheader. First pitch in game one is slated for 12:00 P.M.Â
