East Bay Drops Two to #18 Chico State Saturday at Pioneer Field

HAYWARD, Calif.-- Cal State East Bay began their final weekend home series of the regular season against Chico State Saturday and came up on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep by scores of 6-0 and 4-2. The Pioneers drop to 9-19 in CCAA play and 14-26 overall. The #18 Wildcats improve to 23-9 in conference play and 32-10 overall.

GAME ONE: Chico State 6, Cal State East Bay 0

The pitching of Chico State's Brooke Langeloh was the story of the first game as she held the Pioneers to one hit over seven innings and her offense got plenty of runs to support her effort.

Sierra Clark was good as well for the Pioneers in the circle, going five innings and giving up an earned run on three hits. Meghan Araneta got the lone hit for the Pioneers in game one.

GAME TWO: Chico State 4, Cal State East Bay 2

The Wildcats got a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but the Pioneers answered that with one of their own. Clark knocked-in Rose Marston with an RBI single to tie it up.

The Pioneers would take the lead in the fourth inning when a Wildcat error allowed Ashley Allen to score from third base and now East Bay was nine outs from splitting the doubleheader.

The Wildcats would make sure that didn't happen as the quickly tied and retook the lead in the fifth inning with three runs.

Chico's Haley Gilham would hold the East Bay Bats down in the final three innings and the Pioneers now look for revenge against the Wildcats Sunday at Pioneer Field.

Clark totaled 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI in game two. Clark also came in relief of starting pitcher Tatiana Beilstein and pitched 2.1 innings and didn't allow a run or hit while striking out three.

Sunday at Pioneer Field is Senior Day as East Bay honors the careers of Clark, Allison Noble, Gabby Gonzalez, Mia Ramirez, Beilstein, Marston, Kelsey Cairns, and Allie Kornahrens.

First pitch in game one of a doubleheader after Senior Day ceremonies is slated for 11:00 A.M.
