Pioneers Come Up Just Short In Both Games Of Doubleheader at SSU

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.-- Cal State East Bay was handed a pair of tough one-run losses to Sonoma State Saturday. The Pioneers had a 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh, but saw the Seawolves mount a four-run rally and steal game one of the doubleheader 4-3. Tatiana Beilstein was impressive against Sonoma State for the second straight game, but came up on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss in game two. CSUEB is now 3-5 in the CCAA and 6-8 overall. The Seawolves improve to 5-3 in conference and 8-6 overall.

GAME ONE: Sonoma State 4, Cal State East Bay 3-

Ali Cerminara had the big hit in the seventh inning to put the Pioneers in front 4-2 before eventually winning 4-3 in game two Friday, and started Saturday off right for her team. Cerminara doubled to right-center to score Courtney Leyba and make it 1-0 Pioneers. That score would hold until the fourth inning when the Pioneers plated two runs.

With Mia Ramirez on second and Gabby Gonzalez on third and two outs, Leyba singled to center field to score both runners and it was 3-0.

Starting pitcher Sierra Clark was cruising along till things started to unravel for the Pioneers. All four runs in the seventh scored with two outs. Alison Strycula tripled in two runs to make it 3-2 and Jordann White won the game for a Seawolves with a double to score two.

Leyba went 2 for 4 with two RBI's for the Pioneers. Marisa Lerma also had a two-hit game, going 2 for 4. Cerminara ended the first game at 1-3 with an RBI.

Clark went all seven innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Her win/loss record dropped to 4-2.

GAME TWO: Sonoma State 1, Cal State East Bay 0-

The pitching of Beilstein and Sonoma State's Brielle Vidmar was the story, but a Seawolf run in the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the 1-0 Seawolf win.

The Pioneers twice had runners in scoring position after doubles by Allen in the second and fourth inning, but were unable to capitalize both times.

Beilstein went the entire way in the circle, giving up the one earned run on six hits. Ashley Allen went 2 for 3 at the plate. Gonzalez went 1 for 3.

Cal State East Bay resumes CCAA play Friday at Pioneer Softball Field with a doubleheader against Cal State Monterey Bay.

First pitch Friday is set for 12:00 P.M.
