Stanford, Calif. – Pierre Carter led Cal State East Bay (8-2, 2-1 CCAA) with 14 points in the Pioneers 55-79 exhibition loss to Stanford on Friday night, December 16 at Maples Pavilion.
10 of Carter's 14 points came in the first half. He added four rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes. Carter knocked down two three-pointers as he was the lone Pioneer in double figures.
Senior
Lamine Mbodj put in a season-best seven points on 3-for-7 shooting from the field. Mbodj compiled two assists, a steal and a rebound for CSUEB.
Kyle Frakes also finished with seven points in 17 minutes for the Pioneers. Frakes knocked down three of his four foul shots.
Sophomore point guard
Juwan Anderson tallied six points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 19 minutes on the floor. Two of Anderson's three rebounds came on the offensive end.
Drew Bender paced East Bay with six rebounds on a team best 29 minutes. Bender had five points, three assists for CSUEB.
Paramvir Singh also had five points and three assists for the Pioneers. Singh grabbed three rebounds and secured a steal in 22 minutes of game action.
Freshman
Druce Asah chipped in four points, three rebounds and two steals in just 18 minutes. Asah also grabbed two offensive boards for East Bay.
Jelani Mitchell completed the exhibition with four points, two rebounds, two assists and one block. Mitchell played 26 minutes off the bench for East Bay.
Senior
Jalen Richard totaled three points, while sinking one bucket from three-point range. Richard added an assist and a rebound in just 11 minutes.
The Pioneers managed to outscore the Cardinal 35-31 in bench points.
Fourth year head coach Gus Argeanl happy with the experience and preparation the exhibition against Stanford provided them with.
"Whenever you have the opportunity to play a university like Stanford you have to do it," said Argenal. "I have a ton of respect for coach Haase I know him personally, he's one of the best in the country. And for our guys it is learning to play against the highest competition and this only prepares us for our league games. This game allows me to play different guys and lineups."
Reid Travis paced the Cardinal with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Dorian Pickens added 11 points and five rebounds for Stanford.
The Pioneers will then return home for their first game in Pioneer Gymnasium since November 16, with their CCAA home opener against Cal State L.A. on Monday, December 19. It will be Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day in Pioneer Gymnasium. Tip off will be at 5:00 p.m.
