TURLOCK, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay senior midfielder
Victor Calderon has been voted to the 2016 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer Team as an honorable mention selection, the conference announced Thursday evening at the annual Soccer Awards Banquet.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Stanislaus State prior to the final two rounds of the men's and women's CCAA Tournaments this weekend.
A native of Fairfield, Calif., Calderon spent two seasons with the Pioneers after transferring from Santa Rosa Junior College. He was one of East Bay's most dynamic players this season, leading the team with three assists and ranking second in both goals (3) and points (9).
Calderon helped the Pioneers their most successful season as members of the CCAA under first-year head coach
Mike Bielski. CSUEB's six wins in 2016 was the most for the program since re-joining NCAA Division II in 2009, and it's their highest win total since going 8-6-1 as an NAIA squad in 2007.
Calderon was heavily responsible for two of those wins in particular. On Sept. 25, he scored the golden goal five minutes into overtime to seal a 2-1 home victory over Humboldt State. On Oct. 12 on the road at Stanislaus State, he racked up three points with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 Pioneer victory.
