HAYWARD, Calif – The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team battled the visiting Cougars of Cal State San Marcos of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) to a scoreless draw on Friday night in Pioneer Stadium.
For the CSUEB (6-7-2, 2-5-2 CCAA) it was their first home draw on the 2016 and their second draw in CCAA action. It was San Marcos' (4-5-3, 4-2-3 CCAA) second conference tie of the month.
The game a physical defensive matchup between the two squads, with each team racking up 15 fouls apiece. The Pioneers remained aggressive offensively throughout the game.
The Cougars led the shot advantage 15-9, with three shots on goal. The Pioneers finished with two shots on goal.

Zach Leon,
Christian Gonzalez and
Luis Lopez all finished with two shots each to lead the Pioneers. Lopez and
Jared Johnson put up one shot on goal apiece for CSUEB.

Carlos Moreno led the Pioneers with three saves on the evening.
East Bay Head Coach
Mike Bielski felt his team put forth great effort during the game, but also failed to capitalize on their opportunity.
"I thought the guys played really hard tonight," Bielski said. We had our chances, we just didn't put them away. It was tough ending in a tie but we'll take the point and start focusing on Sunday."
The Pioneers will return to action for their final home game this Sunday, October 23 to face off against the UC San Diego. It will be Senior Day for East Bay as the team will honor it's eight seniors before the game. The Match will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
