TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team fell by a score of 2-0 to Azusa Pacific on Saturday at the Warrior Challenge, hosted by Stanislaus State.
Katelyn Rodgers scored for the Cougars in the fourth minute of the game, putting the Pioneers behind early. She tacked on her second goal just after halftime, and the APU defense held the Pioneers to just two total shots.
"This is a game we can build on, and it moved us closer to being ready to compete in the tough CCAA," said head coach
Amy Gerace. "Azusa Pacifc is a very good team, and I thought we played them well in the first half. We allowed them to regain their rhythm in the second half and found ourselves chasing the game at times."
The extremely talented APU squad upset No. 10 ranked Cal State Stanislaus on Friday and was subsequently named champion of the Warrior Challenge.
CSUEB sophomore defender
Janelle Herrera was named to the All-Tourament team, the lone representative from the Pioneers.
