HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay track & field program hosted a speed and movement clinic for local youth on Sunday, Feb. 15 at Pioneer Stadium. On a beautiful day in the Hayward hills, more than three dozen youngsters attended the free event, which aimed to teach the fundamentals of proper running and training technique.
"The purpose of this event was to engage the community through an activity they're passionate about, which is track & field, and specifically speed," said head coach
Ralph Jones, who coordinated the clinic. "This area is a track & field community with a rich tradition of success in the sport. There are numerous youth teams and former Olympic athletes right here in our backyard. One of our goals as a program is to get those people up here on campus to see the great things we are doing to promote the sport and our focus on the principles of fitness and movement with our youth."

"These events help our student athletes learn how to be ambassadors for the University and the athletics department, while gaining valuable teaching tools," added Jones. "This was a fantastic event that I would like to see grow so we can serve more youth from Hayward and the surrounding communities."
