HAYWARD, Calif. –- This Saturday, Pioneer student-athletes will be participating in Hayward Family Skate, hosted by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District and Cal State East Bay's S.K.A.T.E. Club (Skating for Kids Achievement Through Exercise). The event will provide local families the opportunity to enjoy free music and skating in a fun and safe environment. It will be held at Sunset Adult School in Hayward on April 20 from 12-4 p.m.

Hayward Family Skate will feature music, fun games, activities, and skate demonstrations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own skates, although a limited number of skates will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Nastassia Hamor, a Pioneer cross country and track student-athlete and member of the US Inline Skating National Team, founded the S.K.A.T.E. Club on the CSUEB campus with the goal of getting more youth interested in skating through family-friendly fun.

“S.K.A.T.E. is comprised of a handful of students who truly care about the community,” Hamor said. “I originally started this group because I wanted to see more involvement between our campus and the city of Hayward. With the help of my club officers, our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle on and off campus; getting people involved and introducing more people to skating.”

Hamor noted that they will be accepting donations of skates in any size. S.K.A.T.E. is in particular need of men's skates, sizes 8-13.

Hayward Family Skate is free and open to the public. For further information, please visit HaywardRec.org or call (510) 317-2303.
