HAYWARD, Calif. -- On a night where senior
Tori Breshers was honored for scoring 1,000 career points during her Cal State East Bay tenure, she scored a game-high 17 points to help the Pioneers to a 69-45 victory over Chico State Saturday at Pioneer Gymnasium. The win improves the Pioneers record to 2-0 in the CCAA and 6-2 overall. The Wildcats fell to 0-2 in the conference and 4-2 overall.
The Wildcats came out ready to play and built an early 17-9 advantage, but the Pioneers would go on a massive 19-1 run finish the half up nine, 35-26.
"We came out of the gate sluggish and Chico really took it to us," said Head Coach
Suzy Barcomb. "We woke up in the second quarter, fueled by Tori (Breshers) and Shannon (Bland) and I thought we got into a good rhythm offensively and defensively."
The second half saw the Pioneers add on to their lead and outscore the Wildcats 34-19 and head home with a 24-point victory.Â
Breshers was honored at halftime of the men's game for scoring her 1,000th career point against Academy of Art last Saturday and scored her 17 points on 8-16 shooting. She also paced the Pioneers in rebounds with eight and steals with three.
"Tori continued her stellar senior campaign with another solid outing, filling up the stat sheet," said Barcomb.
Senior
Shannon Bland scored 16 points on 6-9 shooting with four rebounds and four assists.
"We tried to isolate Shannon (Bland) a bit more tonight and it worked out well as she was able to get some good looks at the rim," said Barcomb. Senior
Madison Craig had 11 points and four rebounds and caught the attention of Barcomb for her efforts on both sides of the court.
"Madison had a very solid game on both ends of the floor. She played very aggressive on the offensive end and ran really great sets, finding her opportunities to score as well as create."

Laci Effenberger had nine points in 27 mintues on the floor. Senior
Ashleigh Anderson scored eight points on 3-4 shooting. Junior
Remy Puou had four rebounds in 11 minutes of action. Junior
Shonte Trudeau also had four rebounds, collecting them in eight minutes.
The Pioneers out rebounded the Wildcats 38-23 for the night, including 14-3 on the offensive end. The Pioneers had a huge 40-16 advantage on points in the paint. Cal State East Bay shot 47.3% (26-55) from the field to Chico State's 38.1% (16-42).
The Pioneers don't play again until Saturday at Menlo College. Â The tip-off for the non-conference affair is set for 5:30 P.M.Â
