CHICO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team came out on the losing end of a 2-0 decision on the road at Chico State on Friday evening. The Wildcats scored a pair of early goals and hung on for the shutout.
The Pioneers (4-8, 2-4 CCAA) managed to put just two of their seven shots on goal despite playing from behind nearly the entire contest.
Chico took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute as Lindsay Dias volleyed home a cross from Pooja Patel. The home team doubled its advantage in the 23rd minute when Patel found the back of the net after a corner kick.
"The first half was not our best in terms of effort and execution," said head coach
Amy Gerace. "We had a great discussion with the team, and we maintain our commitment to getting better."
Goalkeeper
Amanda Valentine finished with six saves for the Pioneers, who turned in a solid defensive effort in the second half. Senior
Mindy Castro's two shots were a team high, and freshman
Janis Gamboa had yet another strong performance in what has been an impressive rookie season.
Next up, the Pioneer women return home to host conference rivals Cal Poly Pomona on Friday Oct. 9 and Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday, Oct. 11.
