ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Sonoma State rode two first half goals to a 2-0 victory over visiting Cal State East Bay Sunday. The Pioneers see their CCAA record drop to 3-7 and 5-11 overall. The first-place Seawolves, ranked No. 8 in the nation, are now 8-0-2 in league and 11-1-3 overall.
The Seawolves got on the board at 18:25 when Sara Van Wagoner scored from about 10 feet out to make it 1-0. The second goal came when Alex Sifuentes took a cross pass and scored from five feet out.
"Sonoma put us under a lot of pressure in the first half, and we took a lot of time to settle it," commented head coach
Amy Gerace. "We did find more rhythm after halftime and did a better job keeping possession of the ball."
The Pioneers were out-shot in the match, 16-5.
Janis Gamboa led thhe team in shots with three.
Megan Ravenscroft and
Andrea Hernandez each had one. Goalkeeper
Katelyn Oshima had five saves.
Cal State East Bay next plays Thursday, Oct. 29, back home at Pioneer Stadium for their final weekend of games, starting with a 4:30 p.m. match against Cal State Dominguez Hills.Â
