ROHNERT PARK, Calif.-- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team experienced a rough Sunday at Sonoma State as they were shutout by the Seawolves 3-0. With the loss, the Pioneers see their CCAA record drop to 3-7 with a 5-10 mark overall. The Seawolves improve to 5-4-1 in the conference and 9-5-2 overall.
Sonoma State started off the scoring at 17:37 with a goal by Armando Coronel to give them a 1-0 lead. Andrew Ogilvy added a second goal at 38:13 to make it 2-0 heading to the half. They added another goal by Coronel at 50:12 Â to cap-off the scoring for the game.
Cal State East Bay was able to get 17 shots off (10 on goal), while Sonoma State had 18 (11 on goal) in the contest. The Seawolves had 11 corner kicks to the Pioneers 10.Â
"Sonoma did a betetr job at finishing their chances today," said head coach
Andy Cumbo. "We both had a lot of scoring opportunities, but unfortunatly were weren't able to capitalize in front of their goal. This game was open and an exciting one for the spectators."
Kellen Crow and
Michael Tieku each had three shots to lead the Pioneers.
Marco Neves,
Victor Calderon and
Duke Driggs all had two shots.
Jeremy Romero had two shots and currently stands at fourth place in that category in the CCAA with 42 shots.
"Calderon did a good job in the midfield, especially in the second half, and Kellen had some strong moments on both sides of the ball," Cumbo added. "We are furstrated to lose, but excited to return home for our final two games."
The Pioneer men return home on Thursday, Oct. 29, for another tough CCAA contest against Cal State Dominguez Hills, currently ranked in the top 10 nationally. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.Â
