Hayward, Calif.—
Kiki Leuteneker got the kill and narrowed the Pioneers deficit to 22-19, but would see Sonoma State rattle off three more points to take the first set and go on to win the next two sets to win the match 25-20, 25-13, and 25-11 Friday at Pioneer Gymnasium. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 3-16 overall and 1-10 in the CCAA. The Seawolves improve their overall record to 13-3 and 9-1 in the CCAA.
"We lacked discipline tonight, especially in games two and three, and made way too many unforced errors. We need to improve our block technique and defensive toughness to achieve the results we want," said Head Coach
Jim Spagle.
Leutenker led the way for the Pioneers with six kills, followed by
Kathy McKiernan with five.
Veronica Fabiano had four kills. Fabiano also had 19 assists and eight assists to lead the team in both categories.
Angie Maina had seven digs and three assists.
The Pioneers had 28 kills as a team. They had 108 total attacks and 27 assists.
Cal State East Bay next plays Saturday at 7:00 P.M. against visiting Humboldt State at Pioneer Gymnasium.
