Stanislaus Stifles Pioneer Women on Wet Wednesday

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat on a wet and chilly afternoon in Pioneer Stadium at the hands of visiting Stanislaus State on Wednesday.

The Warriors came in and controlled the momentum, scoring early in the contest and using impressive combinations to create chances throughout. They out-shot East Bay 15-to-7 and with the win improved their record to 7-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Stanislaus took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute off a corner kick from the right side. Jade Poon's shot from the left post deflected off a Pioneer defender to teammate Kirsten Coleman, who put it away in the top right corner of the net for her fourth goal.

East Bay managed just two shots on goal in the match as they attempted to erase their deficit, and they had a tough time putting consistent pressure on the Warrior defense.

Stanislaus notched an insurance goal late in the second half to put the game away and remove any hope the Pioneers had of winning their second straight contest.

CSUEB falls to 4-7-0 for the season and 2-3-0 in conference play with the loss. Next up, the team continues its tough CCAA slate on the road at Chico State this Friday, Oct. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
