FRESNO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay swimming is on the road this weekend to compete in a pair of meets in the city of Fresno. The Pioneers will be at Fresno Pacific on Friday afternoon taking on the host Sunbirds and Colorado Mesa. They conclude their road trip on Saturday, Jan. 10, at NCAA Division I Fresno State.
"After meeting a lot of Division I teams we are excited to be going head-to-head with some teams that rank similarly to us in Division II. It will be a good test of where we are at," said East Bay Head Coach
Ben Loorz.
In the most recent Division II poll from Nov. 13, 2014 the Pioneer were ranked No. 25 in the nation. Colorado Mesa was one of seven teams to receive votes towards the top-25 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) rankings.
Fresno Pacific competed against CSUEB's Saturday opponent in Fresno Pacific earlier this season. The Sunbirds fell 199-101 back on Nov. 15.
"The back-to-back opportunity against Fresno State is one last chance for us to race twice with a quick turnaround. That is a necessary skill (to possess) at the Conference Championships," added Loorz.
The Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships is a four day meet with morning preliminary races followed by evening finals sessions. The Pioneers have four dual meets prior to the championships which start on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
