Tenney Triumphs in 200 IM on ‘Senior Day’ Versus San José State

Results: SJSU 128, CSUEB 96 - F

HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay concluded its regular season schedule with a final tune up against San José State at Pioneer Pool on Friday afternoon. The visiting Spartans won 128-96, but the day belonged to four-year Pioneer senior Alyssa Tenney who held on for victory in the 200-yard individual medley to make it a memorable 'Senior Day' sendoff.

"I was pretty excited and sad at the same time. I just wanted to go out there and race well," said Tenney of her thoughts going in to her final competitive races at Pioneer Pool. "(Today) was a lot of fun. I was happy to see my family, friends, and roommates."

Tenney captured East Bay's lone event win against the Spartans in taking the 200 IM in a time of 2:10.28. She led wire-to-wire and withstood a late charge from SJSU's Alli Davis in the neighboring lane.

"I felt good until the second lap of breaststroke. My legs were burning but I told myself 'you can do it, just pull it off,'" said Tenney of her thoughts late in the race. "I was thinking if I could just win this one (race) it would be golden," when asked if there was any extra motivation during her 'Senior Day.'

Alyssa Littlefield finished third among a tightly contested field in the 50-yard freestyle. SJSU's Michaela McLean (24.66) and teammate Christina Bruni (24.73) slipped in ahead of Littlefield (24.84) at the wall.

Littlefield anchored the 200 free relay which included teammates Tenney, Noelle Farrar, and Kameron Isaacs to finish runner-up in the final event of the meet. This group finished less than a second behind the Spartans winning relay time of 1:39.56.

"It is a very exciting moment in our season as we finish up dual meets and turn our sights toward Conference Championships. I am looking forward to how the team responds to our final phase of the season," Head Coach Ben Loorz commented following Friday's finish.

Cal State East Bay will compete at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships in La Mirada, Calif. starting on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
