The Pioneers sit one game in front of both weekend opponents in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings nearing the midway point of the league schedule.
Cal State East Bay is looking to snap its current 5-game losing streak heading into its matchup with Chico State. The Pioneers dropped a pair of two point road decisions to Humboldt State and Cal State San Bernardino last weekend.
Stephanie Lopez led the team averaging 22 points, eight rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. She knocked down 13-of-14 free throws and better than 44 percent of her shots from the field.
Junior
Tori Breshers led the squad with five blocks and now has 89 for her career. She is looking to become the second player in program history to amass 100 blocks, and could become the all-time leader in the near future sitting behind Antoinette Goode with 115 from 1994-98.
Micah Walker and
Remy Puou combined for 23 of their 31 points on the weekend in Saturday's 54-52 defeat to the Coyotes. Walker knocked down her first four shots of the game and Puou finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
CAL STATE EAST BAY vs. CHICO STATE (Preview Notes)DOWN TO THE WIREThe last three meetings between these two squads have been decided by three points. Cal State East Bay swept the season series last year earning a 64-61 road decision and a 63-60 home win. In 2012-13 the Wildcats extended their win streak to four over the Pioneers with triumphs by scores of 56-50 and 59-56.
ON THE PROWLThe Wildcats enter the weekend winners of back-to-back games against San Francisco State and Sonoma State. After opening the league season 1-7 through eight games, Chico State now sits only two games back of the sixth and final transfer spot into the CCAA Postseason Tournament.
BEEN THERE BEFORELast season Cal State East Bay lost six straight CCAA games and saw its hopes of a return trip to the league postseason tournament slipping away. The Pioneers went on to capture four straight victories to close out the regular season and make their third straight CCAA Tournament appearance.
RETURN OF THE WO'MACK'Chico State's Hannah Womack leads her team averaging 16 points per game in league play. She has scored in double figures in all 14 games this year and is part of a squad connecting on nearly 78 percent of its free throws in 10 league contests.
LOPEZ LEADS THE WAYEast Bay senior guard
Stephanie Lopez leads the team in conference play averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. She is knocking down nearly 85 percent of her free throws and is the only Pioneer to shoot better than 30 percent from three point range.

As did the Wildcats, the Warriors opened the league season 1-7 and are back in contention for the final postseason tournament berth.
DEFENDING HOME COURTCal State East Bay has won the past four games inside Pioneer Gymnasium against Cal State Stanislaus with three coming by double digit margins. Stanislaus has not defeated East Bay in the city of Hayward since Jan. 7, 2010. The Warriors enter this weekend 1-4 in CCAA road games with their lone victory a 72-71 win over Chico State on Dec. 20, 2014.
MAGIC NUMBER IS 40Cal State East Bay is 5-1 this season when grabbing 40 or more rebounds. All five Pioneer wins were by margins of 17 or more points.
MIXING AND MATCHINGCal State Stanislaus has had eight different players start at least once in 10 CCAA contests this season. Jasmine Washington leads the team averaging 12.1 points in eight league games. Riley Holladay and Alysa Valentine are the only Warriors who have started all 10 games.
FREE THROW WOESBrianna Cotton has knocked down 23-of-25 (.920) free throws against CCAA foes this season. The rest of the squad has made 114-of-189 (.603) and the team currently ranks 11th out of 12 teams hitting 64 percent at the charity stripe this season.
THE AIR UP THEREThe Cal State Stanislaus roster currently lists five players standing six feet or taller. Four of those five are underclassmen with sophomore Riley Holladay and freshman Aleseana Whitney seeing significant minutes. Despite the height, the Warriors have the second worst rebounding margin in league play at -6.0.
