The Pioneers will take on California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) leader Humboldt State on Thursday, Jan. 15, followed by Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Cal State East Bay looks to bounce back after suffering home losses to Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. this past weekend. The Pioneers hope to avoid a midseason swoon similar to last season before winning four straight to close out the regular season and earn the final CCAA Tournament berth.
CAL STATE EAST BAY at HUMBOLDT STATE (GAME NOTES)CHOPPING DOWN THE COMPETITIONHumboldt State is the hottest team in the league having won 11 straight overall including a perfect 8-0 mark against CCAA foes. On average the Lumberjacks are defeating league opponents by 12.2 points per game. HSU is averaging nearly 80 points at home and has won by double figures in four of its five games inside Lumberjack Arena this season.
EYE ON THE PRIZEHumboldt State looks as though it's on its way to qualifying for the CCAA Postseason Tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign. The last time the Jacks won a postseason game was in 2009-10 when they earned the CCAA Tournament title and made it to the second round of the West Regional Tournament.
STARTING FIVE ADJUSTMENTSHumboldt State suffered its lone loss of the season to the nation's currently ranked No. 12 Seattle Pacific in the second game of its season. The Jacks inserted Megan Shields into their starting lineup the following game and have reeled off 11 straight wins as she joined A'Jaee Foster, Jae Shin, Danielle Gaumer, and Kersey Wilcox.
ROAD WARRIORSCal State East Bay had won four straight against Humboldt State before dropping a 71-64 road decision on Feb. 6, 2014. The Pioneers were victorious in the previous two meetings inside Lumberjack Arena by five point margins during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. CSUEB won its first four true road games this season before falling 68-66 to Sonoma State on Jan. 3.
'BOARDER' PATROLCal State East Bay is averaging more than 44 rebounds and +11.6 rebound margin in its nine wins this season. In five defeats the Pioneers are grabbing just 36 boards and are -2.0 on the glass.
Micah Walker enters Thursday with 371 career rebounds and is on track to become the 11th player in program history to grab 400 career rebounds.
CAL STATE EAST BAY at CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO (GAME NOTES)PROTECTING HOME COURTThe Coyotes enter Thursday off the heels of back-to-back road wins against Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State. CSUSB has only played five home games this season and is 3-2 inside Coussoulis Arena. However the Coyotes losses came against the league's current top two teams in Humboldt State and Cal State Dominguez Hills. They will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday prior to Saturday's matchup with the Pioneers.
DOWN TO THE WIRECal State San Bernardino swept last year's season series with wins by seven and four point margins, respectively. Cal State East Bay had won three straight by margins of six, three, and three respectively prior to the 2014-15 season.
I'LL TAKE A DOUBLE-DOUBLEBrianna Harden is one of four players who has started all 12 games for Cal State San Bernardino this season. She is averaging 12.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game to lead her squad. Harden has recorded eight double-doubles in 12 games including 21 points and 15 rebounds in the league opener versus Sonoma State on Dec. 5, 2014.
KEEP IT UPStephanie Lopez averaged 19 points in last year's matchups with Cal State San Bernardino. This season she is averaging 18.8 points per game; if she holds her current clip she would set the program record currently held by Robyn Crispi (1990-91) and Leah Thornton (2004-05) of 18.3 ppg.

Suzy Barcomb will be celebrating her birthday on Saturday, Jan. 17. She is 1-0 on her birthday as coach of the Pioneers following last year's 64-61 road win over Chico State.
