Prelims Session
GENEVA, Ohio – Cal State East Bay's
Makila Schuck and
Brittany Rojo took to the SPIRE Institute pool at the NCAA National Championships on Friday morning. Schuck finished 29th in the 100-yard breaststroke and Rojo 21st in the 200-yard butterfly during morning preliminary session.
Schuck finished the four lengths of breaststroke in a time of 1:07.09, just over three seconds from a top-16 spot and ticket to Friday night's finals session. Kayla Scott of Wayne State set the NCAA Division II record in the prelims session and again in the finals in a winning time of 1:00.66.
Rojo's 200 fly time of 2:06.31 placed her five spots out of the top-16 who would return for the evening finals session. She was one second away from the 16th spot and within a second of her personal best time this season.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team scratched prior to competing in the morning prelims. The Pioneers did not have any team members competing in the finals and dropped to 17th overall in the women's team standings.
Cal State East Bay will have half of its team members competing in the opening event on the final day of competition tomorrow.
Caitlin DeNise, Rojo, and
Madison Hauanio will be competing in the 100 free. DeNise will look to qualify for her second individual championship final as she is seeded eighth overall.
The Cal State East Bay 400-yard free relay will try to do the same as it is seeded 10th heading into the prelims session on Saturday morning. It will be the final race for the Pioneers at the National Championship meet.
