SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team finished in 13th place at the 2014 Coyote Classic, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino at the par-70 Arrowhead Golf Club. The Pioneers posted a three-round total of 901 (+61) after shooting a collective score of 308 (+28) on Tuesday.Â
CCAA rivals Chico State (+15) and Cal State Monterey Bay (+22) finished first and second, respectively. The Pioneers were three strokes better than Academy of Art (+31) in 14th place.
A.J. Hebert was East Bay's top finisher for the tournament. The junior shot a 79 (+9) in the final round, giving him a combined score of 223 (+13) and a tie for 31st place in the overall field of 91 golfers.
Joe Furtado-Foster fired a 76 (+6) in Tuesday's round to finish up the week one stroke behind his teammate at 224 (+14), tied for 33rd place.
Joel Keylor matched Furtado-Foster's 76 in the final round after two straight 75's. The sophomore's consistent play earned him a 39th-place finish with his total of 226 (+16).
With a 77 (+7) in today's action, senior
Zain Pervez finished right on the heels of his teammates with a total of 228 (+18), which put him in a tie for 50th place individually.
Elliot Busichio matched his first-round score with an 80 (+10) in the third round. The junior's combined total of 244 (+34) placed him 86th overall.Â
The next event for the Pioneers will be their home tournament, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, which runs on Monday, Mar. 3 and Tuesday, Mar. 4 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif.
