• Program HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team will host Holy Names on Tuesday, Dec. 16, to conclude its 6-game homestand. The Pioneers are 4-1 inside Pioneer Gymnasium this season and will look to improve upon that record in their final home contest of the 2014 calendar year.
Cal State East Bay (6-2) has become known for its strong second half performances as of late. Over the team's past five wins East Bay has outscored the opposition 208-131 in the second half and averaged more than 41 points over the final 20 minutes of regulation.
In their most recent effort the Pioneers matched a season-high with 45 second half points.
Stephanie Lopez and
Tori Breshers contributed 15 apiece in helping turn a slim halftime deficit to a comfortable advantage throughout the majority of the second half against Cal Satte Monterey Bay this past Saturday.
Holy Names (2-6) is coming off a 59-56 win over fellow PacWest league member Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday. HNU's season leading scorer Garysha Youngblood finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, and five steals in the victory.
Youngblood is averaging 13.6 points per game this season after contributing eight per contest as a freshman a year ago. Ten different players have started at least two games this season with no other Hawk averaging more than seven points per game.
These two squads have not met since current East Bay Head Coach
Suzy Barcomb took over the program prior to the 2009-10 campaign. Holy Names won 87-82 in the last meeting dating back to Jan. 24, 2009, when current East Bay Assistant Coach
Emily Schaefer was in the Pioneer starting lineup.
