Pioneers Host Two, Make Home Debut Friday

HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's basketball will play an official contest inside Pioneer Gymnasium for the first time this season on Friday, Nov. 21, against Minnesota State Moorhead. The Pioneers play on back-to-back nights when they welcome Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Cal State East Bay (2-1) has won its last two contests and most recently earned a 90-73 road win over Dominican on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The victory was No. 50 for current Head Coach Suzy Barcomb while at the helm of the Pioneers, and No. 287 during her 16-plus years between NCAA Division III school Puget Sound and CSUEB.

The Pioneers will face a pair of opponents who will play California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) members on Thursday and are looking for their first win of the season during treks to Northern California.

Minnesota State Moorhead (0-2) dropped its first two games of the season by single-digit margins on its home floor of Alex Nemzek Hall. The Dragons will take on San Francisco State (0-0) on Thursday at The Swamp in the Gators' season opener.

MSUM's roster boasts five different players averaging eight points or more through two games this season. Meghan Roehrich is averaging 12 points per game and led last year's squad knocking down 51 3-pointers.

Cal State East Bay has won its past two home openers by double-digit margins. Two years ago the Pioneers took down Dominican 58-36, and last season opened CCAA play with a 68-55 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Saturday's meeting is the second of a home-and-home between the Pioneers and Sunbirds. Last season Cal State East Bay earned a 76-60 victory as five different Pioneers scored in double figures. Current seniors Micah Walker and Stephanie Lopez put up 12 and 10 points, respectively.

FPU will host Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday, Nov. 20, before heading up to Hayward. The Sunbirds dropped two contests by an average of 34.5 points in Seattle, Wash., to Seattle Pacific and No. 15 Western Washington.

Charde Stevens leads the starting five averaging nine points and eight rebounds through two contests. In last year's matchup against the Pioneers she finished with 26 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the floor, and seven rebounds.
