Pioneers, Penguins Face off in Annual Meeting on Tuesday Night

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's hoops returns to action for a Tuesday tangle with Dominican at the Conlan Center. The Pioneers are coming off their first win of the season and have comfortably won the previous three annual meetings with the Penguins.

Cal State East Bay (1-1) scored a 66-61 road win over Western Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 15, before returning home to Hayward. Senior Stephanie Lopez (29 pts) and Remy Puou (17 pts) each posted career scoring highs in leading the Pioneers to victory.

Newcomers Shannon Bland and Bianca Littleton saw significant floor time in their first two games with Cal State East Bay. Bland, a transfer point guard from Columbia Basin, leads the team in minutes played (71) and steals (6) through two games. Littleton, a transfer forward from Palomar, is averaging 7.5 points and 6.5 rebounds off the Pioneer bench.

Dominican (0-1) will make its 2014-15 home debut against Cal State East Bay. The last time these squads met at the Conlan Center the Pioneers came away with a 59-38 victory on Nov. 12, 2011. It was the first of three straight East Bay wins coming by an average margin of victory greater than 27 points.

The Penguins received team-highs of 14 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks from Sarah Nelson in their 68-54 season opening defeat to Chico State. Dominican led by 10 points in the first half before a 25-5 run by the Wildcats put the game out of reach early in the second half.

Both teams have a common opponent this season facing Cal Maritime in an exhibition contest. Dominican earned an 84-74 victory and East Bay by a 73-66 score over the Keelhaulers.
