HICKORY, N.C.
-- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team shot 307 (+19) on Tuesday to move up into a tie for 11th place in the final round of the 2014 Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational (NCAA Preview), hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University on the par-72 Jones course at Rock Barn Golf Club.

The Pioneers began the day in 13th out of 21 teams, but they carved four strokes off their Monday total and surpassed the hosts, Lenoir-Rhyne, as well as Queens College of Charleston. East Bay ended up tied with Newberry College and King University at 618 (+42) in the 36-hole event.

Sophomore Adam Stone fired one of the lowest round on the course Tuesday to lift the Pioneers up the leaderboard. The left-hander shot even-par 72 and finished in a tie for 14th overall at 150 (+6).

Fellow England native Sam Lavelle carded a 79 (+7) in the second round, putting him at 156 (+12) and tied for 50th in the overall field of 104 golfers.

Juniors Barrett Taylor and Joel Keylor finished with identical totals of 157 (+13), tied for 57th individually. Taylor shot a 78 (+6) on day two after a 79 (+7) yesterday, while Keylor turned in an 80 (+8) to back up his first-round 77 (+5).

A.J. Hebert improved his second round total by five strokes, shooting 78 (+6) to move up to 81st place with an overall total of 161 (+17).

California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Chico State (+14) captured the team championship behind medalist and reigning CCAA Player of the Year Lee Gearhart (-5), who won by five strokes.

This was CSUEB's final tournament of the fall, and the team now has three months off from competition before spring tournaments begin. The Pioneer men will be looking to have a successful spring in order to earn a trip back to Rock Barn for the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships in May.
