ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
-- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team finished tied for ninth place at the 2014 Sonoma State Fall Invitational after posting a team score of 308 (+20) in Tuesday's final round at the par-72 Foxtail Golf Club. Sophomore Adam Stone placed sixth individually after shooting two over par today to close out the tournament.

The Pioneers finished at 918 (+54) overall, tied with William Jessup. They bested local rivals Academy of Art (+59), Holy Names (+62), and Notre Dame de Namur (+72), as well as California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) member Cal State Dominguez Hills (+77). The host Seawolves came back from two strokes down to start the day and beat second-place Cal State Monterey Bay by two strokes, 883 (+19) to 885 (+21). BYU Hawaii (+32), Redlands (+34), Cal State San Marcos (+38), Cal State San Bernardino (+39), and Dominican (+43) rounded out the top eight teams.

Stone posted his second straight top-10 finish following his medalist performance in Chico last week. He turned in the three lowest cards of the tournament for the Pioneers, with 74 (+2) in the first and third rounds, sandwiched around an even-par 72 in the second round. The Garstang, England native finished at 220 (+4), six strokes behind the individual champion, Sonoma State's Eric Ash (-2).

Sam Lavelle also had a solid week for East Bay, finishing tied for 20th in the overall field of 73 golfers with a total of 226 (+10). After a pair of 75's yesterday, the senior shot 76 (+4) on Tuesday. He did much of his damage on par-three holes, shooting even par for the week, which was third-best in the entire field.

Fellow senior A.J. Hebert stumbled a bit in the final round with an 82 (+10) and tied for 46th place overall with a total of 233 (+17).

Joel Keylor and Elliot Busichio turned in the third and fourth Pioneer team scores on Tuesday, as they both shot their lowest rounds of the tournament with a 79 (+7). Keylor finished tied for 64th with a total of 242 (+26), and Busichio ended up in 72nd place at 252 (+36) overall.

Cal State East Bay's fall schedule continues next week with a visit to another CCAA opponent. The Pioneers will compete in the Otter Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.
