Swimming Takes on Pair of SoCal Squads

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay swimming will head to Southern California to compete in a tri-meet against NAIA squad Biola and Division II Azusa Pacific on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Pioneers will be competing at the La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center, the same facility that will host the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships in mid-February.

Biola's women's program is ranked No. 5 nationally in the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, released on Dec. 12, 2013. However Azusa Pacific defeated Biola 113-106 in a dual meet in La Mirada back on Nov. 2, 2013.

East Bay defeated Azusa Pacific 169-105 last season at Pioneer Pool. Alyssa Tenney won three individual events including the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 400-yard individual medley. Courtney Schwiesow was victorious in both distances of the breaststroke.

Biola defeated Cal State East Bay 182-86 in the squads most recent meeting back on Nov. 20, 2010. Rachel Knowles is the only current member of this year's squad that was part of the 2010-11 squad. She recorded a third place finish in the 200 breast (2:37.30), and second place finishes in the 100 breast (1:13.85) and 400 IM (5:08.92).
