TURLOCK, Calif.
--- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team placed ninth out of 16 teams at the Harry Stanislaus Invitational this week. The Pioneers, ranked No. 9 in the West Region, posted a team score of 318 (+30) in Tuesday's third round at the par-72 Turlock Golf and Country Club. For the tournament, their team total was 946 (+82), which put them three strokes ahead of CCAA rival Cal State San Bernardino and 125 strokes better than Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Senior Blake Ahlin shot the low round for the Pioneers on Tuesday with a 77 (+5). He was also the team's top finisher at the tournament for the first time this season with an overall score of 231 (+15). Ahlin finished tied for 22nd in the field of 87 golfers and ranked second in total pars (39). 

Junior Sam Lavelle shot 81 in the third round to finish at 236 (+20) for the week, tied for 34th overall. Senior Chris Herzog matched Lavalle's 81 today and finished two strokes behind him for the tournament at 238 (+22). Herzog just cracked the top half of the field, ranking 43rd individually.

The fourth qualifying team score came from freshman Matt Lee. He broke 80 for the second straight round with a third-round 79. Lee's total score of 244 (+28) tied him for 56th in the field. Sophomore A.J. Hebert posted his best round of the week on Tuesday with an 83 to finish at 258 (+42) in 81st place.

Seniors Andy Quintero and Greg Atkinson competed at the event as individuals. Quintero shot 83 today, just edging out his teammate Lee with an overall score of 243 (+27). He finished in 55th place. Atkinson posted the second-best third-round score on the team with a 78 today. His overall total of 246 (+30) was good for 63rd place. 

Next week, the Pioneer men will compete in the CCAA Championships at Hunter Ranch Golf Club in Paso Robles, Calif.
