Final Results
LIVERMORE, Calif. — The Pioneer men's golf team are champions of the 2013 Argonaut Invitation, hosted by Notre Dame de Namur at the Poppy Ridge Golf Club. With a three-round total of 889 (+25), they finished eight strokes ahead of second-place St. Martin's. All five of their golfers finished top-20 overall, giving East Bay its best team finish of the 2012-13 season.
Senior
Chris Herzog finished as the individual champion, shooting a 77 to finish at 217 (+1), two strokes better than Academy of Art's Sean Etow. Herzog entered the day with a four-stroke lead after shooting two rounds of 70, the lowest score for any player in the field this week. He led the field in par-three scoring (-1) and racked up 11 total birdies to earn his second career individual tournament crown.
Sophomore
A.J. Hebert also had an outstanding week, finishing in third place with a total score of 221 (+5). Like Herzog, he also posted a 77 on Tuesday. Hebert led the 42-player field in par-five scoring (-6) and total birdies (14).
Senior
Andy Quintero also cracked the top-10 after turning in a team-best round of 75 today. He finished tied for seventh with a final total of 224 (+8).
Sam Lavelle's Tuesday score of 79 gave him 228 (+12) for the week, placing the junior 15th in the overall field with the fourth qualifying team score.
Last week's individual champion at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout,
Matt Lee played another solid three rounds of golf this week. The freshman shot 78 today and finished tied for 18th overall with a score of 230 (+14).
After their best team performance of the year, the Pioneer men will travel to Dupont, Wash. next week to compete in the St. Martin's tournament.
